General situation of the disaster:
At 17:19 on February 12, Yutian County (36.1 degrees north latitude and 82.5 degrees east longitude) in Hotan Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, occurred with a focal depth of 12 km; at 17:24, another earthquake with magnitude 5.7 occurred with a focal depth of 5 km. The epicenter was about 5 km above sea level and 110 km away from Minfeng and Yutian counties. The earthquake disaster caused 469000 people to suffer in Xinjiang, 59000 people were urgently transferred and resettled, 120000 houses collapsed and 77000 buildings were damaged in varying degrees, and the direct economic loss was 1.21 billion yuan.
The earthquake disaster has the following characteristics:
1.Magnitude Bureau, frequent aftershocks
The highest magnitude of the earthquake was 7.3, followed by a 5.7 earthquake and more than 3500 moderate strong aftershocks, with high frequency and strong intensity.
2.Large scope of the disaster, and many houses are damaged
Ten counties (cities) were involved in the earthquake, and the disaster area was large, with a total area of 128000 square kilometers. In addition, 90% of the houses in the disaster area are adobe houses built by farmers themselves, which were built earlier and have poor seismic resistance, resulting in a large amount of house damage.
3.The masses' self-help ability is weak and the disaster relief task is heavy
Hetian area is a poverty-stricken area of ethnic minorities in southern Xinjiang, there is almost no industry in the region, the main source of income of the local people relies on forest and fruit and animal husbandry. The income of the masses is low. The economic conditions of the victims are backward, the self-help ability of the masses is weak, and the government's disaster relief task is heavy.
