Map description

This map comes from the Major natural disaster Atlas of China in 2010 Surveying and Mapping Press and China Map Publishing House. The editing unit is the National Natural Resources and Geospatial Basic Information Database Project Office.

In the Altay area of northern Xinjiang, traffic was blocked, houses collapsed, and livestock died of freezing, a large number of people were affected, and they were even besieged by heavy snow. The thickness of snowfall in most areas is as high as forty centimeters, and the thickness of snow in some mountainous areas is more than one meter deep. Along with this heavy snowfall, there were also strong winds of 6 to 7 which caused the minimum temperature in some places to drop to minus 35 degrees Celsius. Heavy snow also covered winter pastures in many areas, and some livestock starved to death because they could not eat the grass. The snow disaster in Xinjiang caused severe economic losses.
