The Kingdom of Wu's administration of Jing Province underwent a complex process, evolving from contested control to consolidation, which can be divided into three main phases:

** Struggle for Control** Following the Battle of Red Cliffs, the Eastern Wu gradually gained control over parts of Jing Province, yet faced ongoing contention from both Shu Han and Cao Wei. After Liu Bei "borrowed" Jing Province, Eastern Wu repeatedly dispatched forces to contest the territory. This struggle culminated in their seizure of the entirety of Jing Province after the Battle of Yiling.

** Administrative Reorganization After its occupation, Eastern Wu reorganized Jing Province into several commanderies and counties: * Jiangxia Commandery: Previously part of Jing Province, it became a crucial military stronghold for Eastern Wu. * Wuchang Commandery: Served as a political center for Eastern Wu, with Sun Quan even establishing his capital there for a period. * Changsha Commandery:** Another former Jing Province territory, where Eastern Wu strengthened its governance after taking control.

Strategic Significance Jing Province's location in the middle Yangtze River region made it a vital corridor connecting Yi Province (modern Sichuan) to Yang Province (modern Jiangsu, Anhui). By securing Jing Province and leveraging its naval supremacy, Eastern Wu solidified its defensive line along the Yangtze. However, disputes with Shu Han over the territory and regional influence persisted.
