From Tang of Shang to Pan Geng Period
After Tang of Shang overthrew the Xia Dynasty, the capital was established at Western Bo (near present-day Luoyang, Henan). The controlled territory included Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Shanxi, and parts of Shaanxi. Subsequently, the Shang Dynasty relocated its capital multiple times, but its core area consistently remained focused on the Central Plains region.
After Pan Geng moved the capital to Yin
Pan Geng moved the capital to Yin Xu (present-day Anyang, Henan). Following this move, the territory of the Shang Dynasty stabilized and expanded, reaching north to the Yan Mountains, south to the area north of the Yangtze River, west to the Taihang Mountains, and east to the Shandong Peninsula. During this period, by controlling the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, the Shang Dynasty became the core power of the Central Plains.
