Description of the National Liberated Areas in 1949
On the eve of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the provincial-level administrative divisions established in the liberated areas across the country included: * The six municipalities directly under the central government: Beiping, Tianjin, Shenyang, Fushun, Benxi, and Anshan. * The five administrative territories: Lüda, Subei, Sunan, Wanbei, and Wannan. * The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. * The six provinces of the Northeast, and the newly established provinces of Hebei, Shanxi, Chahar, Suiyuan, Pingyuan, and Shandong. * Other areas continued to use the administrative divisions from the period of the Republic of China government.
